When I was home last weekend my mom was making a mojito and was nice enough to make me one too. It was really good but I was taking time to savor it, and she kept saying I didn’t have to finish it if I didn’t feel like it. I think maybe she just wanted to finish it.
Since it is currently 89 degrees in my apartment, I have been looking for things to eat/drink that will be cool and refreshing. A mojito is just that. Lime and mint come together with the water of the gods (rum) to bring a refreshing experience that may transplant you out of an overheated apartment and onto an overheated tropical island.
My mom got her recipe here or at least on that site, but I’m gonna edit it to what my mom did JUST FOR YOU! (this is for one drink)
- 12 fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 lime
- 2 tablespoons simple syrup(equal amounts sugar and water heated until sugar dissolves, cooled) or 4 teaspoons sugar (my mom had a bottle of pre-prepared simple syrup from Trader Joe’s)
- Ice
- 1 1/2 ounces light rum
- Club soda
- Lime wedge and mint sprig, for garnish
We just put everything in a shaker and shook it up but here are the real directions:
In a tall glass, muddle or mash together the mint leaves and lime.Add the simple syrup or sugar and fill the glass with ice. Add the rum and top with club soda, stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge and a sprig of mint.
If I didn’t have a test tomorrow I would probably be moseying on down to the store to pick up these ingredients right now. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
Would you drink this?
